Reading Programs Reading Programs
At Tutoring and Instructional Services, Inc. we provide individual tutorial programs in reading. These programs are designed after an initial consultation.
This consultation involves an interview with the student and family to discuss specific needs and to review academic records and prior testing.
Following the assessment, we may begin an individualized tutorial program or request more testing, some of which we may administer.
We may refer clients for specialized testing to professionals with whom we maintain close affiliation.
Our reading specialists develop a program which utilizes the student's particular strengths and focuses on the areas of concern.
We employ a variety of structured reading programs which use a multi-sensory approach and teach to the student's individual learning style.
Particular reading programs are chosen that meet the educational profile of the student.
These approaches are extremely effective with students who have not learned to read through traditional methods.
We pay close attention to a student's attitude and motivation and make adjustments when necessary.
Most students meet with their tutor at least two times a week for one hour sessions. Tutorials sessions are fun and engaging.
The length of the program depends on many factors such as learning style, memory and processing speed.
Each reading program has a particular scope and sequence.
We evaluate our students regularly as part of our diagnostic prescriptive teaching methods.
Students complete their tutorial program by showing mastery in the outlined areas of the reading curriculum.
